The crashing waves are so powerful, it's almost impossible for ships to launch off this coast into the Atlantic Ocean, but in the past vessels had been marooned here by the offshore rocks hidden by the treacherous seas. Just a handful of permanent and temporary camps and lodges are found in this vast wilderness and as such, visitors who venture here are amongst the privileged few who get to explore what is surely one of the most dramatic stretches of land anywhere in Africa.

Explore the coastal shipwrecks
Marvel at the shipwrecks that have become synonymous with the Skeleton Coast. Take a 4x4 along the sandy border and visit the famous shipwreck, the Eduard Bohlen, a 100m wreck on the desolate beach, slowly eroding into history.
Kayak around Pelican Point
Set off on a kayak to explore the remote Pelican Point peninsula, home to up to 50.000 Cape Fur seals, dolphins, black-backed jackals, flamingos, pelicans and even the brown hyena. The Pelican Point lighthouse, erected nearly 100 years ago, still casts a guiding light for sailors during the night.
Take a marine wildlife safari
